Is a Deposit Required to Book Car Shipping?

Web Auto Transport requires $0 at booking.

No deposit, no upfront fee, no commitment before a carrier is assigned. Here's exactly how our booking and payment model works.

The Direct Answer: $0 Required at Booking

Web Auto Transport does not require a deposit to book your shipment.

You pay nothing when you first place your order. A small partial payment is collected only after we have confirmed a verified, FMCSA-licensed carrier for your shipment. If we don't find a carrier that meets your requirements, you owe us nothing and receive a full refund of any amounts paid.

Why Most Brokers Charge Deposits (and We Do Not)

Many auto transport brokers charge a deposit at booking before they have even found a carrier. This is common but problematic:

  • If they cannot find a carrier at your price, your money is already committed
  • Some unethical brokers collect deposits from many customers simultaneously, never intending to fulfill all orders
  • Non-refundable deposits give you no leverage if service quality is poor

At Web Auto Transport, we earn your business by finding you a carrier first. You only pay once we have done the work. This aligns our incentives with yours.

How Our Payment Structure Works

At booking: $0 due. Place your order with no financial commitment.

At dispatch (carrier confirmed): A small partial payment is collected. Typically $100-$300, depending on the total shipment cost. This secures your spot on the carrier.

At delivery: The remaining balance is paid directly to the driver (cash, cashier's check, money order, or Zelle/Venmo. Personal checks are generally not accepted.)

Alternatively,

Choose our Card Price option to pay the full amount by card at dispatch, with nothing due at delivery.

How the Payment Timeline Works

Stage Payment Amount
Book your order $0 No payment
Carrier confirmed & dispatched Partial dispatch fee $100–$300 (varies by route)
Vehicle delivered Remaining balance to driver Cash, cashier's check, money order or Zelle/Venmo*

When the Dispatch Payment Is Charged

The dispatch payment is charged only when:

  1. A vetted, FMCSA-licensed carrier has been matched to your shipment
  2. The carrier's insurance has been verified as current
  3. The carrier has confirmed pickup availability within your requested window
  4. You have received the carrier's name, contact info, and DOT number

You'll receive all of this information before the payment is processed. You can verify the carrier independently at safer.fmcsa.dot.gov before approving the charge.

The Card Price Option

If you'd prefer a single all-digital payment, our Card Price option lets you pay the full shipping cost by card when your carrier is confirmed. No cash required at delivery.

The Red Flags to Avoid

Be cautious of any auto transport company that:

  • Requires full payment upfront before assigning a carrier
  • Charges a non-refundable booking fee just to start searching
  • Requests payment exclusively via Zelle, Venmo, or Cash App
  • Cannot tell you the carrier's name before you pay

These are warning signs of potential bait-and-switch tactics or outright fraud. See How to Spot and Avoid Car Shipping Scams for the full guide.

Q&A

Q: Why do some companies charge a deposit before finding a carrier?

Typically, to capture your commitment before they've done any work. Some use it as a non-refundable fee. At Web Auto Transport, we believe you should only pay for results.

Q: Is the dispatch payment refundable?

Yes. If you cancel before your vehicle is physically picked up, we will refund the dispatch payment. See Cancellation and Refund Policy for full details.

Q: Can I book multiple vehicles with $0 upfront on all of them?

Yes. The $0 upfront policy applies to every vehicle on every order.

Q: Will my credit card be stored or charged automatically?

No. We send a secure payment link when dispatch is ready. You authorize the charge at that point. Your card is not stored.
