How to Track Your Vehicle During Car Shipping
Car shipping doesn't have universal GPS tracking, but you can always get real-time updates. Here's how to track your vehicle at every stage of transport.
Tracking Is Available. Just Not Always GPS-Based
Unlike a FedEx package, most auto transport carriers don't yet offer live GPS tracking via a customer-facing app. However, you are never left without information. Here's how tracking works with Web Auto Transport:
Your Three Tracking Channels
1. Your Dedicated Logistics Coordinator
Your logistics specialist has direct contact with your carrier and monitors your shipment throughout. They can tell you your vehicle's current status, location region, and estimated delivery window at any time.
- Phone/text: (760) 932-2886 / (760) WEB-AUTO
- Email: info@webautotransport.com
- LiveChat: webautotransport.com
2. Direct Contact with Your Driver
At dispatch, we provide the driver's name and phone number. You can text the driver directly for location updates.
💡 Tip: Text rather than call while the driver is en route. Commercial drivers are not permitted to use handheld devices while driving. A text will be answered at their next stop.
3. Key Milestone Notifications
We proactively notify you at these points:
- Dispatch: Carrier confirmed, pickup window set
- Pickup confirmed: Your vehicle is loaded and in transit
- Delivery approaching: Driver calls 2-4 hours before arrival
- Any delay: Proactive notification with updated ETA
Status Updates Available On-Demand
You don't need to wait for us to contact you. Any time you want a status update:
- Text us at (760) 932-2886 / (760) WEB-AUTO with your order number
- Text your driver directly
- Email info@webautotransport.com
- Use LiveChat at webautotransport.com
We'll respond within minutes during business hours (Mon-Sat 8 AM–5 PM ET).
When Carriers Do Offer GPS Tracking
Some carriers in our network do use GPS dispatch systems with real-time location. If your assigned carrier has this capability, we'll notify you and provide access instructions.
This is becoming more common as carriers adopt platforms like Super Dispatch and Ship.Cars that include tracking features.
Q&A
Q: Can I see my car on a map?
Not always. It depends on your carrier's technology. Most customers receive text-based updates with regional location information (e.g., "Your vehicle crossed into Georgia this morning and is on schedule").
Q: What if I can't reach the driver?
Call or text your logistics specialist at (760) 932-2886 / (760) WEB-AUTO. We have dispatcher contacts for every carrier in our network.
Q: Will I know when my car is delivered if I'm not there?
Yes. The driver will attempt to contact you and your authorized delivery representative before and during delivery. Your coordinator will also confirm delivery.
Q: Is tracking available 24/7?
Driver texts and your coordinator's messages are monitored during business hours. For urgent after-hours concerns, leave a message and we'll respond as soon as possible.
