Can I Pack Personal Belongings in My Car? (Official Policy)
Web Auto Transport allows up to 100 lbs of personal items in the trunk or cargo area at no extra charge. Here's what's allowed, what's prohibited, and why.
The Official Policy
You may pack up to 100 lbs of personal belongings in the trunk or rear cargo area of your vehicle at no additional charge.
Items must be:
- Packed in the trunk or cargo area only (not the back seat or front seat)
- Secured and unable to shift during transport
- Below window level so they don't block the driver's line of sight
- Non-hazardous and non-fragile
What You CAN Pack
- Soft bags and duffel bags of clothing
- Bedding and linens
- Books and small household goods
- Gym gear
- Non-fragile boxed items
What You CANNOT Pack
| Prohibited Items | Reason |
|---|---|
| Electronics (laptops, tablets, cameras) | Not covered by insurance; theft risk |
| Valuables (jewelry, cash, documents) | Not covered by insurance; theft risk |
| Perishables (food, plants, drinks) | May spoil, spill, or create mess |
| Firearms and ammunition | Federally regulated |
| Hazardous materials | DOT regulations prohibit |
| Fragile items | Risk of breakage; not covered |
| Items in the back seat or front seat | Visibility and safety regulations |
Important: Personal Items Are NOT Insured
The carrier's cargo insurance covers your vehicle only, not personal belongings inside it. If a bag is damaged or goes missing during transport, you have no claim under the carrier's policy.
Importnat note: Do not pack anything you cannot afford to lose.
What Happens If You Exceed the Weight Limit?
Federal DOT regulations limit commercial vehicle weight. Excess personal items can push a trailer over legal limits, potentially causing:
- The carrier to refuse loading your vehicle
- Extra charges for overweight loads
- Delays while items are removed
Always weigh your items before packing and keep the total under 100 lbs.

Q&A
Q: Can I put items in the back seat?
No. Items must only go in the trunk or rear cargo area. Items in the back seat may block driver visibility during loading and violate safety rules.
Q: Will the driver inspect what I've packed?
The driver may check the interior during the condition inspection. Improperly packed or prohibited items may delay your pickup.
Q: Can I ship holiday gifts in the trunk?
We advise against it. Gifts are not insured and could be damaged. Ship them separately via courier.
Q: Can I lock my car with items inside?
Yes. You can lock the vehicle after packing. The driver does not need interior access during transport.
Q: Does having items in the trunk affect my quote?
No, as long as items are under 100 lbs. Excess weight may result in an adjusted price.
